Home & Identity

Home & Identity is the name of a course during my first MA year at RCA. This page shows two short clips that resulted from. The theme of the course, as can be deduced form the title, was a discussion around the concepts of home and identity, and how they are closely related to each other becoming a major pillar upon which our personalities are built. The course culminated in the installation piece Pacco da Casa.

The aim of this first video is to showcase how sterile a house abroad can be when the elements that would make it a home are missing. Friends, family and even pets that have defined your life are ripped away from the spaces you inhabit, and their absence can prevent you from actually feeling at home in your new place.

The second assignment was to film a short clip consisting only of one single shot. Continuing the theme of the first video, I wanted to convey the message of how alienating a student’s living situation abroad can be. Indeed, the more you try to find and attribute feelings of homeliness and familiarity to your situation (red and blue are the identifying colours of my hometown), the more it will seem forced and isolated. Your search for a sense of comfort results in one of distance.
